The price of FAST is tiered and based on the number of database users licensed on your system.  We believe that FAST is fairly priced and that our customers receive more value than would be expected for the cost.  Remember, FAST is a system utility and not an application package.  While the end-users could use FAST, we recommend that it only be used by the system administrative staff.  All  users share the benefits of a well tuned system.

We chose to utilize tiered pricing to allow the smaller sites to justify the purchase.  A large system will often have more files than a small one.  A large system will nearly always have more data than a small one.  In addition, the disk, account and file structure tends to be more complex in large systems.   In general, tiered pricing has worked well, and most of our over 2130 customers agree that they receive more value for their money than they expected.

Some of our other policies rather mitigate the difficulties of tiered pricing.  For example, if you change hardware or migrate to another supported database (e.g. from uniVerse on UNIX to UniData NT), as long as your maintenance agreement is in effect, we do not charge you to transfer FAST to the new system.  It is typical of application software that the customer must pay to transfer the software to another platform or a larger system.  Our products are utilities, you only buy the product once.
